Networking

Networking is one important aspect of community building. A virtual community is a gathering of people in an online “space”. This space has tools and features, which allow them to connect and bond with each other. Any community, according to analysts, is characterised by three traits:
Common interests of its members
Frequent interaction of its members
And a common identity.

Our Chat rooms and Bulletin boards satisfy this.

Chat procedures

What is a private room?

You can create a Private Room to carry on private conversations with other members that you invite to the room. Only you know the name of the room you create. The private room name does not appear in the list of rooms available. Therefore, you need to tell other members of your private room name, if you want them to join you there.

How do I create a private room?

1) Click on the “Private Rooms” button on the chat home page
2) You will be taken to a default room
3) Click on the option “Create room”
4) Enter a name for the room you wish to create (Be as creative as possible and avoid giving common names) and click the “private” option
5) You will be taken to your private room.

Your private room will no longer exist after the last member in the room has logged out. So also, if you create a private room and then change rooms, the private room ceases to exist.

A Celebrity chat is a moderated event.

What is a moderated event?

A moderated event is somewhat like a large auditorium filled with people. It also has a speaker (The Celebrity) and a moderator in the room. When you send a message in a moderated room, it first goes to the moderator who handles the flow of messages. If and when your message is deemed appropriate for the conversation, the moderator will forward it into the room. Queries relevant to the topic and which does not break the flow of the discussion will be given priority.

If you do not see your message come up in the room, you need to be patient, as the question will be put forward into the room by the moderator at the appropriate time.

How do I attend a moderated event?

When you enter a room that contains a moderated event – you’re in on an exciting way of having a conference on the Web!
1) Find a comfortable seat, relax, and start typing!
2) Your queries / comments in a moderated room first go to the moderator and you will get a message to confirm that the moderator has received your query.
3) The moderator forwards your query into the room and you will be able to see your query in the chat window.
4) The Celebrity answers your query, which will appear in the chat window.

Private messaging or chatting with other members in the room is not possible during a moderated chat event.
